Elon Musk's Starlink Given the Thumbs Up To Save Australia's Internet.

Australia's terminally bungled NBN rollout has become a meme.
And not a good one.
Sure we are above the threshold of most underdeveloped countries and we can see how this can be labelled 'first world problems'
However, as a developed nation we are behind schedule.
Only now, a decade after the initial NBN rollout is the service being provided in MOST urban areas of our country.
Even so, our speeds are nothing to email home about.
Provided your internet allows that type of thing.
Which could be set to change...
If you're not familiar with SpaceX's Starlink, you can find out more about it here.
In essence, Starlink is a constellation of satellites that circle Earth providing high-speed internet.
At its peak, Starlink will be 12,000 satellites strong orbiting 440km above Earth by 2027.
Although just 1,000 satellites make the system economically functional.
To date, the satellite count is already at 360.
Starlink has been given the green light by Australian telecommunication regulation authorities and will soon set up a satellite network within Australia.
A successful Starlink setup would mean wireless fibre-speed internet anywhere in Australia - and the world by extension.
Users will only need a type of plug-in terminal that Musk says looks like a "... thin, flat, round UFO on a stick."
Plus the terminal has "... motors to self adjust optimal angle to view the sky."
Difficult to install?
Nope.
"... simply: Plug in socket and point at sky."
Pretty nifty!
Starlink's promise to revolutionise internet speeds and access across Australia is a very welcome one.
In an official statement, Starlink said they plan to "offer satellite-based broadband and communications services for residential, commercial, institutional, governmental, and professional users across Australia."
Although Starlink has been in the SpaceX pipeline for a while now, a recent video published by the private space organisation is quite informative and shows what is to come for the ambitious project.
